Star Micronics & ClearTEQ Provide Optimal POS Solution To Specialty Market East Meats West

East Meats West is an independent specialty frozen food market serving southern Alberta, Canada. Their brick-and-mortar store provides high-quality Western Canadian longhorn beef and Eastern Canadian seafood not typically found in big-box chains.

    The Challenge

East Meats West owners Kathy Campbell and Charlene Musgrove were unsatisfied with their current point-of-sale (POS) system and provider, suffering from downtime and inefficient technical support. In addition, the small business was just starting, and the owners needed an affordable, easy-to-use, cloud-based solution that provided flexibility in management, enabling them to run their store from different work locations.

“ClearTEQ is cloud-based, which is important as one of us works outside the store in another business. Accessing the system from anywhere and working in tandem with people in the store is important.”
    Kathy Campbell
    Owner, East Meats West

East Meats West also prioritized working with a solution provider that could handle growth as their business expanded. They also needed the solution installed quickly to keep their store running without losing profits.

Ascent Solutions and Star Micronics Revolutionize ERP for Salesforce Users

Ascent Solutions creates true point-of-sale (POS) software built on the Salesforce platform, complemented by Star Micronics’ WebPRNT technology and POS hardware.

Ascent Solutions is an exciting enterprise resource planning (ERP) software offering features to help businesses manage their inventory and sales processes. What’s impressive is that Ascent Solutions’ inventory management system is powered by Salesforce, a leading customer relationship management (CRM) platform. So, businesses enjoy the best of both worlds: leveraging Salesforce’s powerful features for the front office (i.e., sales, service) with Ascent Solutions’ back office inventory management operations.

Companies can easily monitor inventory levels, automate inventory replenishment, and simplify order fulfillment processes with Ascent Solutions. And if you need data-driven insights, the software also offers real-time reporting and analytics to help you make informed decisions.

A standout capability of Ascent Solutions is its mobile functionality. The software comes with mobile apps that allow businesses to manage their inventory from anywhere, anytime. The mobile apps are packed with features like real-time inventory tracking, barcode scanning, and other tools to help businesses stay on top of their inventory management operations.

In addition to its inventory management features, Ascent Solutions offers various other tools called Apps 360, which help businesses streamline their sales processes, such as lead management, quote-to-cash, and order fulfillment.

CD4 Choice series cash drawer with mC-Print3 thermal receipt printer by Star Micronics.
Ascent Solutions software includes the option of a CD4 cash drawer and mC-Print3 receipt printer.

Ascent Solutions worked with customers across industries and identified a need for better payment management tools in brick-and-mortar locations that leverage Salesforce. To bring this solution to market, it’s partnering with Star Micronics, a leading provider of point-of-sale (POS) hardware solutions. This partnership continues to bring incredible results, as businesses can now enjoy the benefits of Ascent Solutions’ inventory management software with Star Micronics’ POS hardware, like the mC-Print3.

Star’s mC-Print3 thermal receipt printer is an excellent choice for businesses looking for a high-speed, compact, and feature-rich printer. The mC-Print3 offers various connectivity options, including USB, Ethernet (LAN), WLAN, and Lightning USB, enabling it to work seamlessly with devices like tablets, smartphones, and computers.

With Ascent Solutions integration with Star Micronics’ hardware, businesses can easily manage their inventory and sales processes, from the point-of-sale to the back-end inventory management system.

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to speak with Bryan Hutchinson, CEO of Aethon Consulting, a premier partner of Ascent Solutions. We talked about his role at Ascent and how partnering with Star Micronics brings business owners using Salesforce one of the best POS solutions out there.

Can you tell me a bit about your background and role with Ascent Solutions?

I’m a businessperson turned programmer, which gives me the best of both worlds – the ability to see and understand, even define requirements, and execute them myself. As you said, I’m one of the top partners with Ascent Solutions, doing product implementations alongside CRM and financial implementations, providing that end-to-end, lead-to-financials business system.

What role in the market does Ascent Solutions fulfill, and how?

Ascent provides a flexible and robust ERP solution on Salesforce, and it’s so much more than just resource planning. It allows customers to mold it to their own business processes while enforcing the necessary rules in the backend.

Think about Quote, Ordering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Contract Manufacturing, Inventory Management, Warehouse Management, Demand Planning, Financial Management, and Integrations – it’s all part of the Ascent Solutions suite of applications on the AppExchange.

And what we, as partners, do is review a customer’s business processes, discuss pain points, KPIs, etc., and utilize the Ascent products as the backbone of that process.

What POS hardware does Ascent currently use from Star Micronics?

Currently, we’re using the mC-Print3 printer and CD4 cash drawer. We’re also exploring the mPOP® receipt printer/cash drawer combination, as its versatile connectivity and clean presentation are highly attractive.

What made Star so easy to partner with?

The Integration Team at Star was supremely helpful and always ready to hop on a call to help us troubleshoot. Star’s WebPRNT technology really worked out with our POS software because it works with Salesforce, a web-based platform. We also loved how the mC-Print3 offers free access to Star Micronics Cloud Services because it allows business owners to customize receipts and schedule promotional material.

Why would businesses want to use Ascent Solutions ERP software? What types of companies would benefit the most?

I help everyone, from small businesses to large enterprise organizations, begin to use the Ascent platform, from oil and gas industries to medical, third-party logistic companies to resellers, value-added resellers, and construction companies that buy, sell, and provide services. The range of customers is so vast because of how flexible and powerful Ascent technology is.

Visit Ascent Solutions’ website for more information, or check out the application on the Salesforce AppExchange.

Star Micronics Receipt Printer Integrates with Fatwood Barbeque Food Truck for a Sweet Mobile POS Solution

Download the full case study >

    The Challenge

The obstacle Fatwood BBQ faced was the consistent bottleneck line of customers coming to the truck to place their orders. Like many food trucks and other small establishments, the Fatwood team would relay orders by shouting to each other, complicating order management as volume increased. This backed everything else up, making customers wait longer and longer.

Management knew this problem had to be addressed before it soured customer sentiment.

Boosting employee efficiency while retaining customer satisfaction quickly went to the top of their list. They needed to ensure that staff could manage a large number of orders on a regular basis to continue increasing revenue.

“I’m a huge believer in speed and efficiency in the food business and that’s what I wanted for the POS.”

  • UBMe and Star Serve Up Curbside Success to C&H Hawaiian Grill

UBMe and Star Serve Up Curbside Success to C&H Hawaiian Grill

C&H Hawaiian Grill was a long-time passion project, founded by Hensan and Cora Timo. They have been in business for 16 years, starting in Killeen, TX, serving hearty island BBQ. The Timo family wanted to share the “Aloha” spirit with their community combining the essence of vibrant Hawaiian experiences with a laid-back atmosphere. They recently opened their Austin, TX location and plan to open in San Antonio, TX in May, 2021.

    C&H Hawaiian Grill LogoThe Situation

Like many other independent restaurants, C&H Hawaiian Grill felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and were forced to shift their business model. Prior to the pandemic, C&H used third-party delivery services such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, and hired someone full-time to handle delivery and pickup orders via phone. When the global pandemic hit, the amount of delivery and pickup orders coming in via phone quickly became too much to handle manually.

    The Solution

Since their current third-party ordering services did not have a solution for curbside pickup, and many of their orders were still call-ins, C&H knew they needed another solution. That’s where UBMe and Star Micronics come in.

UBMe offers a social, mobile technology that is built to help local businesses connect with their customers. UBMe’s seamless technology allowed C&H customers to search and order food directly through the app for curbside pick up. Even more, the app allowed C&H to communicate with these customers when they arrived to pick up their orders with specific safety instructions and procedures.

C&H started by installing the UBMe platform without the Star printer, but quickly realized it was too difficult to track the orders coming to their tablet or phone. Once they installed Star’s mC-Print3 with CloudPRNT technology, online ordering became a breeze. Orders placed through the UBMe app would print directly to the kitchen so they could begin food prep right away.

“UBMe and Star helped solve an issue that we never expected to arise,” says Hensan Timo, Owner of C&H Hawaiian Grill. “Curbside pickup seemed to grow overnight, and many of the existing online ordering apps did not have an easy solution for this transition. With UBMe and Star, online ordering has never been easier.”

After seeing success with UBMe and Star in their Killeen location, they installed the solution in their Austin location as well.

    The Results

From the time that C&H installed the UBMe and Star solution, they nearly doubled their profits from online orders. C&H has printed hundreds of curbside pickup orders at their Killeen location. The system has been easy to use for both employees and customers, and the customers love being able to communicate directly with the restaurant through the UBMe app.

With UBMe’s 5% flat commission per order, the solution is maintainable and affordable for C&H Hawaiian Grill.

  • UBMe Technology Transforms Restaurant Curbside Operations

UBMe Technology Transforms Restaurant Curbside Operations

Since early 2020, businesses worldwide have been struggling to cope with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and the restaurant industry is no exception. For many restaurateurs, this meant adjusting and changing their everyday business operations to generate new revenue and help their staff and customers feel safer. For some, adjusting has not been as easy leading to temporary and in some cases permanent closures.

Restaurateurs, faced with the same challenges as last year, are seeking to remain as profitable as possible in an industry that may need to re-invent itself once in-person dining returns. Successful restaurateurs are uncovering new and inventive ways to wait out the storm, such as utilizing innovative technology-based solutions.

Click here to download the full case study.

    The Challenge

With restrictions on indoor dining, many restaurants have leaned on outdoor dining, drive-thru, and online ordering service. However, businesses without a patio, drive-thru window, or an online ordering system found themselves unable to compete. Because of this, they turned to online ordering and curbside pickup services. Traditionally, curbside pickup staff would approach cars in the parking lot to take orders, process payments, and then hand-deliver the food to the car when it was ready. Customers who opted to order ahead of time would call the restaurant’s landline and show up curbside to collect their order.

While these methods are great in concept and may have sufficed pre-pandemic, they are not holding up today. Staff taking orders and processing transactions from window to window are risking their own health as well as the health of everyone else in the curbside pickup queue. Additionally, suppose customers place a curbside order and call again when they arrive. In that case, the restaurant will quickly become flooded with calls and leave customers waiting with a busy dial tone. No one wants their customers and staff frustrated.

    The Solution

UBMe Star curbside solution for restaurants
    Source: UBMe

Restaurateurs continue to be nimble and creative by searching for solutions that cater to the current environment by turning to solutions like UBMe. A social, mobile tech company, UBMe uses patented communication technology to help businesses better connect to, transact with, and understand their customers. UBMe offers a free app that allows local users to discover and interact with businesses such as restaurants.

The app gives restaurateurs the ability to remotely communicate with customers via live chat for curbside pickup services. This not only cuts down on communication frustration, it also cuts down unnecessary contact between staff and customers, making the interaction safer for everyone. Customers simply need to download the app and stay inside their car while making or picking up a curbside order.

Paired with a Star Micronics printer, the most efficient printer capable of printing orders that come through UBMe’s platform, orders placed via the app will be printed automatically for immediate preparation. Starting with a 30-day free trial and one-time fee to purchase a printer from Star, restaurateurs can discover for themselves the benefits of implementing UBMe’s technology. After the free trial, restaurateurs are charged a flat 5% commission on each order from the app to cover the subscription cost. Restaurant owners can also pass this cost down to their customers with a small upcharge per order and use the UBMe platform for free.

    Star Restaurant POS Solutions

From online ordering printers to kitchen buzzers, Star is proud to offer POS solutions for restaurants, QSRs, food stands, and more.

    The Results

The first key benefit of implementing UBMe’s technology is ensuring the safety of both restaurant staff and customers as it limits direct
contact and thus the transferring of harmful pathogens. It also gives restaurateurs full control of the environment inside and around their business, reducing movement in and out of the building and cleaning up clogged phone lines.

With printers from Star Micronics, ordering and order fulfillment processes are streamlined along with in-house delivery. UMBe aims at making this process more efficient and affordable by giving businesses online ordering capabilities on their own website. This offers an affordable alternative that doesn’t cut deep into restaurant margins.

  • Celerant and Star Offer Safeside Tactical a Solution to Increase Profits and Effortlessly Meet Federal Regulations

Celerant and Star Offer Safeside Tactical a Solution to Increase Profits and Effortlessly Meet Federal Regulations

In December of 2012, Safeside Tactical began as a small storefront in a rural Virginia community. Safeside Tactical is a family-owned, federally licensed manufacturer and firearms dealer specializing in clothing, ammunition, and firearms sales. Quickly growing out of its humble beginnings, Safeside Tactical drew in more business every day, to the point where customers lined up at the doors before opening hours. Due to their success, they moved to a larger location to meet increasing demand.

In 2015, Safeside Tactical was expanded to a second location, consisting of 65 employees. This location allowed the business to offer more, including a variety of sporting goods equipment and gear, indoor shooting ranges, axe-throwing, security services, and even firearm and self-defense training courses. Safeside Tactical also created an eCommerce site to maximize customer reach and increase profitability.

    The Challenge

When Safeside Tactical’s second location opened, they utilized QuickBooks as their business software solution. However, they soon found that QuickBooks didn’t meet all of their business needs. Because of this, Safeside Tactical had to use multiple systems to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations along with basic bookkeeping. It was cumbersome to manage basic business functions such as online reservations, scheduling, inventory, and more.

The SolutionPromoPRNT allows users to create custom receipt marketing promotions.

Migrating from QuickBooks, Safeside Tactical opted for Celerant POS software, bundling it with the TSP143III receipt printer from Star Micronics. Unlike QuickBooks, Celerant’s customized solution enabled Safeside Tactical to manage all business functions from one cohesive system.

Functions such as customer database management, return authorizations, inner-store transfers, and eCommerce with in-store pickup options became a breeze with Celerant. With their new software solution, Safeside Tactical could even automatically update COVID occupancy rules on the website.

Equipped with PromoPRNT software, the Star Micronics TSP143III receipt printer allowed Safeside Tactical to create coupons and special offers throughout the year, an especially attractive option during the holiday season. PromoPRNT also gave Safeside Tactical the ability to advertise special events such as legal seminars that their customers could attend.

With PromoPRNT, Safeside Tactical customized receipt promotions by including advertisements for the retail store to those who visited the gun range and advertisements for the gun range to those who shopped in the retail store. This increased awareness of both locations and maximized profitability.

    The Results

Key benefits of Safeside Tactical’s migration to Celerant and Star Micronics printers include improved compatibility and reliability.

    TSP100-PromoPRNT-246x300

Safeside Tactical also benefitted from PromoPRNT’s remote management feature. With the ability to manage all printers from one dashboard, staff didn’t have to worry about forgetting to change images or promotions. Because of PromoPRNT, Safeside Tactical could confidently include dated and time-sensitive promotions.

As a business that offers multiple gun range locations and brick-and-mortar retail stores, Safeside Tactical experienced simple retail management with Celerant’s inclusive software. The bundle of Star receipt printers and Celerant’s software also allowed Safeside Tactical to roll out disposable printed lane passes amidst COVID to avoid multiple customers reusing the same lane card.

Overall, the excellent combination of Celerant POS software with Star Micronics’s TSP143III printers provided Safeside Tactical with a solution that served them in a way QuickBooks alone couldn’t. With the ability to manage multiple storefronts, create revenue-boosting promotions, and carry out necessary business functions with ease, Safeside Tactical improved business operations tenfold.
